New cleaning business

Hi there,

I am currently unemployed and my adviser at the job center has suggested i start a cleaning business as its something im passionate about.

However, i don't have a clue where to start or how to finance it.

I know exactly what services i am going to offer and researched leaflets and flyer prices, crb's and vehicle leasing (which is out of my price range).

I am not eligible for the new enterprise allowance as i am a dependent on a claim so have been told to promote in my local area but would be so much better off with a vehicle to cover a bigger area.

Also i know if i'm gonna have a chance of getting finance i need a business plan but also struggling with this.

Any ideas gratefully received.

  • I am a professional carpet cleaner, started 8 years ago.

What kind of cleaning are you looking at?
There is an internet forum that might help you, google "clean it up"

    http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php
  • Just general domestic cleaning that most of us do on a weekly basis and then once established offer deep cleans, end of tenancys and commercial cleaning.
  • OK.

Register on and read the forum. If your answers are not on there then post your questions.

You may also find someone relatively close to you but not in direct competition (say 30 miles away) might be prepared to spend some time with you or take you out far a days work, your work swapped for knowledge gained. Carpet cleaners do this with newbies.
  • I have spoken to someone recently and going to see them next week as i said what i was hoping to do and she offered to interview and possibly offer a job to give me experience while building the business.

I live in a large village where everyone knows everyone else and only know of one other cleaner so hopefully it could take off if word gets out as she is known to be a bit slap dash.
