Feline Cerebellar Hypoplasia

I think I diagnosed Macius - after a bit of googling...

Not a severe case but - has all the symptoms.

Anyone else got a "wobbly" cat with no brain, no coordination BUT loved all the same if not more than other cats?

Given the amount of conditions with similar symptoms listed on their other page, I would want to see a vet to be sure on the diagnosis

I know - but it makes me wonder as his 2 brothers and one sister have similar symptoms with varied degree of severity. As far as I know, only one of his sisters is "normal".

The other one I looked at was Feline Vestibular Disease but he does not have those symptoms or others associated with similar "diagnoses"

    http://lifewithchcats.com/2011/09/30/degrees-of-cerebellar-hypoplasia/

BUT - as I said, he is a happy little cat, this does not seem to worry/bother him at all, he does not know he is "different"

He jumps without looking where he jumps, often lands inside ONE item that happens to be on a fairly large, often empty (apart from one plate or one cup) table - butt first. Or hands from the edge of the thingy I got on the sink to dry dishes.

When he runs - all his 4 paws go in different directions and he is wobbly - but happy...

He has always been like that, he is sweet little baby boy as far as I am concerned :)

My Cat From Hell with Jackson Galaxy had a cat on this week's episode. It was on a lot of meds and still having up to 15 attacks a day, biting its tail raw etc.

He did help the owners get the attacks down to 3 or 4 a day. Very interesting.

Ermm - Macius does not have any attacks /does not bite his tail, does not take any tablets etc..

I think you got this condition confused with something completely different.

He is just a little wobbly cat :)

I think it is very likely GR.....I remember when he jumped up towards me to say hello, and landed on my tea cup by mistake.
Just goes to show that it was meant to be that he stayed with you....safe and secure with supervised outside access.
Do you still hear from the other owners, I think one was a poster on here if I recall?

I do not hear from the others, 2 are posters here and one is a friend of a neighbour - may send them an email to see how the others are doing though...
  • Hi Anna and everyone - I don't come on MSE really (only when Anna has pointed me here about the kitties)

Looking at that video of Charley - it looks very much like Harry. She walks extremely funnily, with her back legs stalking a bit like in the video - and often misses when she's jumping, or falls off of things (boxes that she loves to sit on, arm of the chair, bed etc). She can jump quite a long way - she often launches herself at us, but we're expected to catch her as inelegant landings are definitely her thing.

She also has about 2 tooth stumps now - and nothing else.

    She couldn't be happier!

Red is the 'normal' one of the litter - although she reminds me a bit of Lucy as she's whingeing constantly ;) She does have one eye that is occasionally lazy, and she isn't always the most elegant of landers herself, but generally she is a million times better than Harry in that respect :D

Thanks for this - they are all over 2 years old now and I am just so glad they all ended up in loving homes where they can be loved and happy.. wobbly or not :)
  • Yup. Sounds like the Village Idiot.

Hasn't stopped him becoming boss cat of the house. Plus four year old girl's pull toy. Plus official foot attacker of anybody staying the night. And certified (certifiable?) Litter Kicker of 2012-14.

The furry muppet is a walking, stumbling disaster zone. But he's just launched himself in the general direction of my legs (and sort of made it this time) and is purring happily to himself.

    He's doing just fine.
