insurance after accident

  • Is it not a bit of a generic statement to say that if you have a non fault accident you wont change your behaviour if you are a late braker etc

But it would only be cancelled out if EVERYONE who was a late braker changed their behaviour after an accident. If just one doesnt then statistically as a group you'd still be a higher risk.

Insurance works by grouping based on relatively straight forward questions. Add more questions and more accurate answers and you could make smaller groups so more accurately price but (a) you will lose people through the quote process as they give up and fo elsewhere (b) people lie and (c) technical pricing is only one part of the premium and fine tuning arguably isnt worth while when you are then going to then adjust by bigger amounts for commercial considerations

And i was far more cautious on round abouts after this.

There is a thing as being too cautious, you know.
Likewise, my brother had a non-fault accident. He was t-boned at around 30mph.
Afterwards, he was a nervous wreck. There is no way in hell he should have been driving.

Just because you weren't at fault, doesn't mean you remain just as safe as you were before the accident.

To try and see it from your insurers eyes, consider lending your car to me, with one accident (not at fault).
Or how about my identical twin brother, who passed his test on the same day and has never been in an accident?
