Planting a new hedge - Any recommendations?

After my fence has fallen over for the billionth time this winter, we've decided to replace with a hedge, probably beech.

Does anyone have any recommendations of which of the many companies selling online to go with? Or any words of warning about any?

Cheers!

I ignored your post just now, having offered an answer over on the In My Home, and recommended the OP post on Gardens forum here... thought you was he, if you see what I mean :D

I recommended Buckingham nurseries as I have used them a few times, and received excellent plants, good advice, and superb supply of extra trees after aproblem - probably of my own making.

Ebay can be cheaper... but I'd have no idea how good the stock was!
  • I bought my plants from a nursery that sells on ebay - they had a very good seller rating and I read through lots of positive reviews before choosing to buy from them. It worked out considerably cheaper than any of the local nurseries, the plants I received look good and the service was really prompt (quicker than I expected!).

As with most things, if you're thinking of buying on ebay check the seller's feedback!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I used this bunch http://www.beardsworths.co.uk/trees-2/bare-root-trees/, a bit more expensive than others but didn't matter as Yorkshire water paid for it after killing my hedge

I've used Hopes Grove, Buckingham Nurseries and Hedge Nursery in the past few years and all have supplied decent plants.

I had some failures with yew, but in spite of that, buying on-line was much cheaper than going local.

    Sad perhaps, but true. :(
