Is this legal (Insurance approved claim?)
I had a claim made against me in March '13, where another driver claims I hit the rear of their vehicle. The incident did not happen!
I was in a line of traffic when a man in front of me got out of his car and took a photo of my numberplate and said he was reporting me for hitting the back of his car. There was no damage to be seen. But this man came upto my window and said he had hurt his back, he then drove off. I was terrified, I am in my early 20s and this man was in his 40s or so.
I hear from my insurance company about this claim that I hit this man, and I tell them the truth - that nothing actually occurred - and so I do not hear anything of this until august when both of our vehicles have been assessed by damage inspectors.
My car was found to have no damage, but his £500 of rear damage.
At this point Admiral came back to me in August and said the evidence was in my favor and that they had to just push the 3rd party to court or back down. That was the last I heard.
I didn't receive anything so I assumed the claim had been thrown out. I then go to renew my policy tonight and have been told that the claim has been paid out, and Admiral tried to contact me in October on whether I still wanted to pursue the allegation that it was false.
I never recieved any contact from Admiral!
A 'claims handler' on this case started saying that my car couldn't have been proven not to have been involved as it had side damage on it, - side damage the insurance were already aware of prior to this incident!!
Tonight they are admitting that it should never have been this way and a claim shouldn't have been accepted without my consent.
They say they cannot take the incident off my drivers record, but they will offer me compensation of £150!! It will affect my premiums more than that over 3 years!!
I declined their £150 and they are now saying their quality department will contact me soon to discuss this further.
Is there anything I can do? Can I get it removed? Can I push for more compo?

You'll be declaring it for the next 5 not 3 years.0

Have you actually checked how much the difference in premium is? Run some quotes and change the details to see how much it actually changes. Pointless plucking figures out of your head for compo if you haven't actually worked out what's reasonable...An opinion is just that..... An opinion0
