Micosoft & Firefox, etc updates?

Its easy to turn it back on if you want. Just go into your control panel and click on "windows updates"

Thanks - that sounds a good idea, but excuse me for being thick, but how will I know which ones I want?!!!

It could also be that auto update has been turned off for another reason. If you need to update it then I would ask your mate to download something like this:
http://www.autopatcher.com/autopatcherxp/
if you are on dial up. Depending on where you are in the country I don't mind downloading it and burning the updates to CD for you. I keep an up to date copy at home in case of re-installations or people with issues that haven't got net access.

Thanks - I've just taken a look at the autopatcher link - its mind boggling - how on earth do you decide what is needed?!!
