Personally I let Windows update tell me when there are new updates available and then tell it if I want to download them - that way I don't have to get all the updates, if I don't want them, and I can get them when I want, without having to go check if there are new ones every so often.
Its easy to turn it back on if you want. Just go into your control panel and click on "windows updates"
Thanks - that sounds a good idea, but excuse me for being thick, but how will I know which ones I want?!!!

It could also be that auto update has been turned off for another reason. If you need to update it then I would ask your mate to download something like this:
http://www.autopatcher.com/autopatcherxp/
if you are on dial up. Depending on where you are in the country I don't mind downloading it and burning the updates to CD for you. I keep an up to date copy at home in case of re-installations or people with issues that haven't got net access.0 -

Thanks - I've just taken a look at the autopatcher link - its mind boggling - how on earth do you decide what is needed?!!0
