Changes in MSE editorial policy

I am intrigued by the significant shifts in MSE's editorial policies during recent months.
Some time ago, MSE was all about helping consumers to find the best deals, and helping them to make the most out of both financial and non-financial products. It did this very well, through both the main site and the forum.
But in the past few months, that's all changed.
We are seeing more and more news articles about claiming compensation (even when it's not at all due or necessary). Tabloid-style articles are there to draw people to the site - and not, as it used to be, to help those in need and support those wanting to save money.
Blog posts are becoming more and more surreal. We had the ex-Santander employee showing off her lack of knowledge in how a bank branch works, in an effort to get back at her former employer. The only thing Martin blogged about when the Lloyds system went down for a few hours was how Lloyds really must pay compensation. We have moved away from the sensible suggestion that you should carry two cards (just in case), and instead focus on bank-bashing and compensation-claiming.
One of the most helpful and knowledgeable posters from the financial areas of the forum has been banned. Presumably his style of wanting to help others didn't fit with the site's new ethos.
Can someone from MSE explain what's happening here? Is this a deliberate change in policy or just something you've started doing by accident? Presumably you believe the new style will help the site to grow at a faster pace than it has previously? Any comments would be welcomed.

It looks to me like the book burning thread has been removed (or moved elsewhere). Shame on MSE!0
