Advice on Credit Card Fraud by F&F

Need some advice...

In a position where we have just found out through rec a debt collection letter that a family friend has been paying of a credit card that her sister took out in our name... 7 years ago!!

The only resason we have found out is because the family friend in question stopped paying the bill last year hence why a debt collection agency has the details. We have since found out that the person changed the address a few weeks after taking the card out so we have never seen any documentation.

We are slightly baffled though as the person (keep up with me) who potentially did it did not give the correct DOB when the card was taken out. So was a credit check actually completed orginally?

We are stuck as to what to do and who technically is repsonsible for the fraud? Will this have an affect on our credit rating?

Just some general advise as it is worrying enough finding out someone you know has done this and what we can be doing to help get to the bottom of it.

The person who committed the fraud is the one responsible for it.

Does this card appear on your report? You mention it was taken out in 'our' name - but it can only be one of you.

If it's not on your credit reports, then it will have no impact on you.
  • Hi thanks for the info.

Yes it is in one persons name and it is on credit reports.

We have already placed a contest in to the collection agency and to be on the safe side have recorded with the police to get a crime reference number.
Can we be doing anything else whilst we wait for more info from the debt collection agency?

In this context it's an ID check, not a credit check.
