Hi all,
This is really a work question. I have video files that I need to stream to a locked-down portal. However our IT department doesn't have a suitable server. I don't have many files - the equivalent of 3 DVDs broken down into chapters.
When I have looked for external providers they all seem to be really big, not for such small arrangements. Does anybody have any ideas?
I can't use vimeo / youtube etc because if the password was leaked I'd be in breach of my streaming licence.

have you had a look at chromecast?
Presuming you are wanting to stream from a pc to another pc or tv?0 -
You just need a regular webserver, transcode the video to whatever fits your browser (h264, wmv, flash) create and appropriate page and just drop it on the webserver.
If you have a space windows 2k8 server you could use IIS media services for something a bit more professional, in the same vein you could try Darwin media server or mpeg4ip if you are bit more techy.
More outfield VLC has some VOD capabilities.0 -

Why the hell not? Video streaming only needs standard web server; you transcode to some suitable format that people's browsers can handle (if it's "in house" you have more control over this, too) and pop it in a directory that's accessible to your users. Job done.0 -
If it's for "in house" only then you could convert them to a suitable video and serve then from a standard PC and a simple "html5" web pages to serve the videos

If it's for customers, then you can host the files in places like Youtube and mark them "Unlisted" so you need the exact web address to view the video and it won't show up in youtube serches. But you are limited to 15 minute per video.Laters
