I'm sure they have real issues there too being such close proximity to the city centre....0 -
Why on earth should owning a house without a garage/driveway give you a right to adjacent on street parking?0

There is some metered street parking off Botanic. I usually have no problem finding a space. I think the road is called Mount Charles. On the right if your heading along Botanic Avenue towards Queens library. You can park for up to 4 hours. That said, I still got a ticket. The wardens are quick.
I know Mount Charles but had no idea that it was metered parking. It certainly used to be QUB property because I used to visit a friend there and it was a fight with security to convince them that I had a valid reason to be there! If it is now available to anyone, that certainly gives another option. Thanks.Golden_Anemone wrote: »Park and Ride at Cairnshill - will take you about half an hour to drive out, park and get bus back and cost you £3.60 return if you're paying cash and £2.30 by smartcard.
I know but who is paying for my time? If I don't bother going into Belfast then that is an hour of time which can be devoted to something else. In many cases, I can make a lot of progress with a 30 minute visit, to take 30 mins either side is just not realistic. In practice it could actually be cheaper paying a fine than losing an hour of business.Always overestimating...0 -
I used to own a house in Cromwell road .Monday to Saturday you couldn't get parked outside your front door .I have seen ambulances park in the middle off the road and we had to be up early to book a space for the hearse .Yet on Sunday the street is deserted .I still park there on a Sunday ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

I used to work in this area and for a lot of people, public transport wasn't an option. Trying to get to and from client sites without a car is next to impossible.
I used to have to get into work for shortly after 8am before the students from Methody, Queens, City Hospital and every other place of work came looking for a space. One thing those years did was show me that reverse parallel parking and clambering across the front seats are necessities and to not turn down a space just because you can't drive in & out of it or even open your car door!0 -
I think the planners should take some responsible for the parking or lack of parking .I was told by a social worker that the Bradbury centre has 12 parking spaces .If that is true why where they allowed to build without more parking .For lots off people public transport isnt an option ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0

Hi guys,
I got a nasty surprise today when I got back to my car, in the university area of Belfast. It was bad enough that it took a good half hour to find a spot but worse when there was a fixed penalty notice on the screen.

You said it took you half an hour to find a space and still ended up with a penalty notice - so what's the difference?
You could also park in the car park at Posnett Street at the bottom of Botanic but maybe 10 minutes to walk to Queen's is too much time???
Personally I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the number of people who feel entitled to park right at the door of where they are going - should it be on the double yellow lines outside the supermarket or in the entrance to the residential home where my disabled sister lives, or even double parking in the street, because they are too lazy to walk even a few feet from a nearby space. It is no wonder we are facing an obesity epidemic as a nation.0 -

What is the difference in someone feeling that they should be able to get parked at the door of the place they are going to work and people who think that they should be able to get to park outside their house?
FYI, I normally do walk which is why I don't often encounter this. However this is no longer an option due to a change in living arrangements. However, the central issue remains that the parking situation will strongly discourage people from travelling into the area during the day (i.e. business hours). It should be obvious that people not being there during business hours means that they are doing business elsewhere which is simply bot good for the local area.Always overestimating...0
