Credit Card for charity to use

We quite often organised summer teams to Africa, and have to pay for flights several months before the trip (and several months before the fundraising has been completed). So typically we might have around £10k against the account for 3/4 months, with minimal use the rest of the year round. What card might suit us best, and offer best rates for repayment over this term.

Who runs the charity? How much do they collect per annum? How much in the bank?

We've a small board of directors running it as a limited company. Currently we bring in ~30k, with about 5k in the bank.

The bank suggested a credit card I believe.

You need to speak to the business manager at the bank to see whether they will allow the charity to have a credit card.


Do you actually need a card at all? You get no S75 protection for business use and presumably whoever you have arranging the travel will either accept a cheque from you or use Faster payments.


The problem you might have is keeping on top of payments made should one unscrupulous employee put fraudulent or personal payments on there.

A difficult one to get I would have thought. I'm involved with a charity with quite a bit more money involved than that. We use a prepaid Mastercard for some payments and internet transactions where card payments are necessary.
