Wall Bracket for 50" Flat Screen TV

My daughter has just bought a new TV and now wants me to fit it
(Why me, I asked !!)
Looking on the internet the wall brackets seem to come in a lot of price bands, some seem very cheap indeed. (I remember at work a few years ago, the bracket for a TV was nearly as much as the actual TV)
Are there good or bad makes ?
Al that is needed is a 'non tilting' basic strong support, for a 50" TV
thank you

Will the wall take it?
I've had a few problems with cheap ones not fitting the tv it is meant to be designed for. Bought an all singing and dancing one, tilt, swivel and the mounting plate went right across the power input.
Think the last ones I got were off ebay.0 -
What tv is it? Check out what VESA standard it is...probably 400x400 or 600x600 if it's a decent make of TV. Amazon do a great replica of the samsung disc type bracket. I have a 46" up with it on a plasterboard wall and my dad has a 55" up with the same bracket, also on a stud plasterboard wall. Both been up for a couple of years with no problems at all! Think it's about £17 for the one I'm talking about0

55" on a plasterboard wall, did he go into the studs, if not what fixings do you use?0 -
Sorry, I should have said ... the bracket will be fitted to a masonry wall, ie over the fireplace (or at least what used to be the fireplace)0

The umbrella type fixing that open out and spread onto the wall. It's a super thin Samsung type and doesn't weigh all that much, it's been up for over 2 years with no issues/signs of weakness at all.0

Bought mine from Amazon, less than £15, for a 51" plasma. Perfectly adequate, even tilts, although I don't use that function. No need to pay huge prices, it's only a bracket.0

Yep, Amazon. I used this 8 quid bad boy no problem.0

I have this same bracket holding up my 47" Sony LCD and its been perfectly fine. Its not as good quality as the Vivanco mount I have for my bedroom TV but it does not make any difference. After all TV's seem to be getting lighter.
What ever one you get if it has an inbuilt spirit level dont trust it. What was supposedly level was way off when I put my Stabila spirit level on top to check.
All I would say is just make sure you use decent fixings and enough of them (i used 6)0 -
