Poor quality fresh food from Aldi

I too stopped buying fresh produce, recently I had bagged, allegedly ready washed, spinach full of dirt, and aubergines going off after two days.

Things like pre packed tomatoes and strawberries being mouldy when opened, fresh food not lasting more than 2 or 3 days before being unuseable and no sell by or use by dates on any of the prepacked fresh foods.
So all in all despite the recent good press for Aldi I have found them less than impressive
Read through the Aldi/Lidl threads and you will find that while many shop their quite a few say they avoid their Fruit & Vegetables as they are not good quality and/or do not last long.
So like any of the supermarkets you have to sect the good products and shop elsewhere for other items.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
I haven't found our local Aldi to be any worse that the big supermarkets tbh. We do buy stuff on offer at Aldi/Lidl, but the best fruit and veg is from the local farm shop.
I would say have a good look at the bunch/pack before you buy and unpack as soon as you get home as plastic does no favours for fruit or veg.
Regarding "dates" on veggies there will not be a use by date as these are reserved for products that have short life spans such as milk. They have sell by and best before dates both of which are meaningless. I really hope someone who had some veggies past a best before date wouldn't just throw them away.
TBH the majority of the veggies we get are in brown paper bags with no dates at all from the farm shop, or covered in dirt from the garden lol.
I think the quality can vary from store to store with some branches being better than others. I suppose if you have a busy local store with high f & v sales there will be a high turnover of stock so things won't stay on the shelves as long.
