Making sure direct debit payment is taken on the correct date

Hi all,

Credit card newbie here, I've just got my Capital One Classic Extra.

I have set up a direct debit to pay the full amount each month - but I really need that to be done on or just after pay day. When I filled out my application I had to state when my pay day was - can I assume they will take it on that date, or do I need to make further instructions?

Any help much much appreciated!

Have you got the card yet as they normally ask when you activate the card.

Depending on which credit card it is, and the particular terms of that card it will be taken sometime between about 1 and 4 days before your "due date".

The due date will appear on your statement each month, and will normally always be within a day or two of the same date each month (i.e. one month it might be the 25th, then the next month the 24th, but it won't suddenly go to the 10th)

After you've had the card for a few months you could ring them and ask them to move the statement date, so that the due date falls a few days after your pay day, but surely you can just leave the cash sitting in your bank account between pay day and DD day anyway.
