Driveway/pedestrain rights of way

At the start of me reversing, they were not even on the street. Scooter came from round the corner, straight into my car. I pull over to the side of the road and don't begin the manoeuver into the driveway until the way is clear. Which is why, in my opinion, the mother should have been in some control of her child, and not proceeded to walk around the back of my car, after her son has hit it with his scooter, with zero acknowledgement of what happened.
You seem to be saying the pedestrians can see you, but you can't see them??
You need to reverse slower and keep on the lookout for pedestrians or bikes and stop when they come into view.
If you are reversing in such a dangerous place it's impossible for you to see approaching pedestrians then don't reverse without a banksman to supervise the operation and tell you of approaching dangers.

Um no, that's not at all what I'm saying. I also can't see what I've said for you to reach the conclusion that they can see me but I can't see them. I'm saying that I stopped as soon as the scooter came round the corner, the scooter DIDN'T stop until it hit my car. I'm far enough down from the corner that I can see it to reverse, it's safer to reverse in that reverse out, but perhaps there should be some supervision over a child, on a scooter, who to get from the corner to my car has also sped straight past a shop which has cars reversing in and out of all morning? If I was reversing any slower into my driveway I wouldn't be moving!! He has hit the side of my car which maybe you'll realise once I am reversing straight back into my drive, before they are even on the same road as me, I don't have much hope of moving out of the way in the time it took for him to get there. At least half of the footpath was clear, yet the child has hit the side of my car and the mother has chosen to walk around the back of my car, rather than staying on the footpath and going round the front.0 -
If you were stopped, what is the problem over the adult going round the back of you?
The alternative is her going round the front of you and presumably then dangeroiusly having to go on the road.
As you now know the pedestrian walking along the pavement has right of way!0 -

The above?! Why walk behind the car that I'm trying to reverse in when there's room to walk past without going on the road?
Oh, and the fact that she saw her child ride into my car and said nothing to either him or me!0 -
Maybe you're going so slow, they simply lose patience?
Stick your boot down and get on with it?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

lol they haven't even paused or attempted to wait - it's more the going behind the car in reverse that I just don't get. Even if it wasn't for the safety issue of so many kids passing by though, the entrance to the drive is tight and needs to be taken slowly...0 -
As you're in a car you have a duty of care towards pedestrians, even on your driveway. Common sense should dictate not to walk behind a reversing car and certainly not let your child go behind it, but as you're on the school run you're irrelevant. It's not only this woman, she is just the worst offender. A lot of people walk past on the school run because of my location. I have even had someone allow their dog to pee up my wheel as I was midway into my drive, when I stopped to let them pass. I'm next door but one to a newsagents with a driveway, and I know it isn't only me who has had the kid suddenly come speeding around the corner into my pathway.

Reverse faster (when clear) and have some of these to hand:

Clearly the pedestrians in this case are idiots. But the trouble is you have to drive to accommodate them.
If it was me, I would reverse in, keeping my near side as close to the gate post/wall (what ever) as possible so if they did walk on to your property behind your car, they would find their 'exit' route blocked.

Any pedestrian who walks behind a reversing car is an idiot.
Any parent who ignores or doesn't notice their child colliding with a moving car is a moron.
So your question.....what do you do? Well you're obviously dealing with idiots here. You have to allow for that and either beep them if they are trying to dangerously push themselves past a reversing vehicle or just bite your lip and be thankful that at least you're not them."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
