AVG advice

Hello

My PC has the free edition of AVG installed.
I have Windows XP.
Now and again an AVG message appears:

AVG Automatic Maintenance

Clean registry......161 problems found
Defragment registry............optimize not required
Remove broken shortcuts......31 problems found
Clean up Window programmes.............12 items found
Clean up browser.............3 items found
Optimize system start up and shutdown......1 recommendation found.
Degragment Hard Disk..............1 hard disk heavily fragmented

AVG say that In need to sign up to PRO so that it can deal with these items for me.
Is this something that I need to deal with straight away?
Can I clean it up without signing up?

Thanks

SB

If you're machine is running OK, I'd leave well enough alone.
I'd also get rid of AVG and install Avast (the free version). It has a smaller footprint and better detection rates than AVG.

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

Of course there are problems they want you to buy the full version.

AVG was good when it was a 12mb download and did one thing. Detect virus files.

    Now its just bloatware.

I've uninstalled AVG and downloaded Avast. Thank you.

The fan on my machine is constantly running, how can I reduce this?

Unplug it? (joke) I presume by "constantly running" you mean its too loud? Is this a recent problem? Take a cover off your PC (side?) and confirm which fan it is (e.g. CPU). Check for dust accumulation and hoover if required (switch PC off first and be careful).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

I thought the fan kicks in when the machine gets too hot by working too hard.
Maybe it's just too noisy. I'll try your suggestion over the weekend. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. Dust cleaned out and hardly any noise to be heard. Machine working perfectly.:T
