Hope this is posted in the right place (new to the forums)
My pre teenage son really wants to record his gaming on Xbox he's trying to do it to his laptop so he can edit and add voice overs etc.. and he's asking for a HD PVR
As his birthday is coming up I've done a quick search and having no knowledge of this equipment wasn't aware of the variety and the price differences.
I've seen a Hauppage (?) for about £140 and a Roxio (£50-£70)and wondered if the cheaper one is any good.
Or if there is an equivalent that is cheaper that will do the same job?

Just get an old analogue DVD recorder off eBay for £20 or so, he can record to DVD and import the DVDs to the laptop.
If he records on a PVR, how is he proposing to transfer to the laptop?0 -
My boy uses a Roxio Game Cap which gives good resultsChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

Googler, I think but not 100% sure its done by cables of some sort
Moto2 I was hoping the Roxio would give good results, if it gets used as he promises it would then I guess we could upgrade at Christmas.
Its all a tad complicated for a non techie person0 -
It's a box that sits inline with the video and audio output from the Xbox with a connection to the laptop.
The laptop becomes the PVR and editing suite.
The one he has, only has phonos in and out so if you have a HDMI only cable for the Xbox, so make sure you get one with a HDMI inputChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
My PVR , a Humax, only records from its inbuilt tuner. Check if others can record from other sources.0

Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

For those who aren't aware, Hauppauge have a product called "HD PVR" which unhelpfully isn't what most people would call a "PVR".
I suspect this may have caused some confusion on this thread.
Specifically, the HD PVR product can't actually record anything on its own, it is just an interface to a computer which hopefully can.
