Finding shares following mum's death.

Hi,
I am the executor of my mum's will.
Her estate is only worth a small amount, but she did not really keep her financial affairs in very good order so sorting everything out is proving difficult.
In particular I know that she had shares from some windfalls and privatisations e.g. possibly Halifax, o2, bt etc. but I'm not sure exactly which and I can't find any paperwork.
Is there a register of all U.K. shares where I can post her details to find out what shares she owns. Or is there any other way of finding out what shares she owns?
I really haven't a clue how to deal with this matter so any help anyone can give will be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. kje.

Hi,
is there any other way of finding out what shares she owns?
.
If she owns shares she will have been receiving regular dividends either as cheques or credited to her bank account (unless she held them in an online platform but is that likely?)
Try looking for unexplained payments into her bank account.
Companies pay their dividends on different dates, so the date of payment would narrow it down as to where it has come from.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
If you know for certain any companies she had shares with, contact the registrars of that company. this would be free, but won't turn up those you dont' know about.0

...unless those shares haven't paid a dividend recently.
OP mentioned Halifax, which became HBOS, then Lloyds. Lloyds has not paid a dividend for a while, and there must be many others.0
