Warning lights on VW Dashboard

The following lights have appeared on my beloved Beetle this morning and have no idea what the cause may be.

I've google the actual lights and found that its the exhaust malfunction indicator lamp and ASR/ESP control lamp.

This means nothing to me but id like to know the possible causes before I head into the garage and feel like im going to get ripped off as i know nothing at all about cars.

To know exactly what the car is trying to tell you, it might be better to look through your handbook to see what they mean.

Depending on age of your beetle, or if they are solid on/flashing, it could mean different things.

It needs the fault codes reading. Sooner rather than later. You maybe causing damage by continuing to drive it.

Thanks for the replies, I've had a code reader put on it courtesy of my colleagues husband and it appears to be the engine coolant light which may indicate the thermostat needs changing.


the other light is reffering to ABS sensor.
