Hi all just to add to my previous posts where I was discussing the Greek Islands , we have found a lovely villa in Corfu , but also have the option of a friends villa in the algave . So my question is what is the difference in the temps at the end of August ?

Personally I would not go to either in October, unless it's the very start of October.
Both areas are susceptible to rain at that time of year, but the temperatures can still be pretty moderate. We spent October half term in the Algarve in 2012 and it rained every day. We had sunshine two mornings out of 7 and torrential rain for at least 2-3 hours a day. We still had a good holiday and luckily we stayed in a great hotel with an indoor pool that we used a lot.
We stayed in Zante a few years ago at October half term ,which is a little further south than Corfu and again we did suffer with torrential rain. Most days were reasonable and we were able to swim in the sea, go on a boat trip etc but a couple of afternoons the weather turned and one night we were unable to leave our apartments as the rain had come down so heavy it was washing down the streets around our knees!! (Admittedly I'm only 5ft so my knees are not that high off the ground!!)
I am a huge lover of Corfu, so much so that I get married there in June and would highly recommend it, but would say to bear in mind the weather. I loved Portugal too, and I know we were a little unlucky to get so much rain at that time of year but if you're seeking guaranteed sunshine then I suggest you look elsewhere.Lea0 -
The weather in Portugal tends to be poor early in the season and stay warmer in the latter part. We had two holidays in October when it was pleasantly warm, I am not a hot weather lover anyway, and spent a long weekend in November when the weather was perfect.0

Visited Corfu 15th October last year & it was hotter than the Canaries but we were lucky. The island was very quiet & alot of things were shut for the winter. Algarve & Corfu a bit hit & miss in late October im afraid.0
