  • edit- and of course it's gambling - this is data manipulation of third party data from horses, attempting to freeze it gain an edge and slap it on and profit via means of Kelly equation or otherwise - note this is NOT judgement - was into it myself for years, developed countless VBA odds scrapers, realised it was a losing game.

For what I am checking you could not be further from the right deduction. I am using adage of "horses for courses" and checking back in past results as per age, sex, colour weight etc of horses that ran in races.... no need for me to say why I want info as input is not what mattered in my request as for how to get it to list all possible answers prior to filtering. I am checking out the other things mentioned but this nesting way is only way I knew.

Used to be a time when people could ask a question on this site without others seeming to attack the asker, sadly all to often this happens more often on here than any other forum I know. Maybe people posting should not wish to post every detail when them details are irrelevant to answer sought yet they are vilified for not doing so or others assume they know what the other person is thinking well as in this case this person I am replying to should know what they say when you assume something it fits this person.

Blakespops, the details are relevant, the biggest problem on here is people wanting help but refusing to explain what they are trying to do.

Without knowing the details, you are effectively saying...
"I have a problem, I need help. My solution doesn't work, but I won't tell you what I am trying to do. Fix my solution so it works."

If your solution doesn't work, then people trying to help you need to know what the original problem is that you are trying to do.

Or, to put it another way, here's a story... A blind beggar was begging for money, because that was what he thought was the solution. A man came along and did not give him money, but restored his sight. The beggar was no longer blind, so he could go and work to earn money. Should the beggar complain because the solution he was given was to the original problem, not the one he was wanting help with?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

I don't see people attacking you. All I see is people telling you that what you posted won't work and why. This is obviously not what you wanted to hear but it isn't an attack.

People can't help if they don't understand the problem and the desired outcome.

Nested loops are rarely the right answer. 6-deep nesting, without seeing anything else, is not the right approach, ever! There are almost certainly better approaches if you can specify the problem clearly :-)

wasn't attacking you at all - what part of what I wrote was attacking you?

and I gave some useful advice - I've coded in VBA for years

only thing I've ever used a sixfold nested loop for was a time delay routine but even then I realised it wasn't consistent on different clocked machines and reverted to the good old fashioned time function itself

Being as I Asperger's I am finding it very hard to put the ideas in my head into words that you would understand the whole meaning. but lets look at the reason I have the loop because the only constant is the six events. the amount of entries per event is not the same one time to the next some are so small I am able to compute the answers in my head and fill out the spread sheet without need for any code but wanted to work out for if at say Cheltenham where races have large entries making large numbers so simply wished to have so first part (as above) went on sheet one and I can then go on to extrapolate each data requirement before moving on to the next. so I am then able to go back to any point and try something new without the need for rewriting everything to change tangents.

I trust this helps clear up some of the why.
