guarantee issue - well known car dealer

Hi All
Need a bit of advise re a supposed one year guarantee.
My girlfriend's parents bought a second hand car from a well known dealer from their local (well known) dealer round Manchester. They also got a one year guarantee.
The car then had a warning light pop up a few weeks later. My partner popped into our local dealer. They said the car needs important work. When she asked about the guarantee and they said they could not 'find it' on the systems.
They said that the original dealer had not done guarantee right. My partner then just decided to pay and get the issue fixed so that we can then go back to the original dealer and get the work done / a refund - which in hindsight was a bad idea.
The original dealer are now saying that they had done everything correctly and that they have since talked to the (our) local dealer and they can see it too.
She tried talking to our local guys today but is being given the run around.
What are the options that are open to us?
If they keep messing us, should be thinking small claims court, etc...
Any and all input will be much appreciated.

So if the local dealer have agreed its not in order. What is their reason for not refunding?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Well - this is where it gets a bit "he-said-she-said"...
The person who rang us from the original dealer said that she had spoken to 'someone' in the local dealer.
He gave us a name too and said that this 'someone' had seen the guarantee on the system too.
After at least three attempts to talk to either this person, or a manager, they kept fobbing us off today.
I suspect they are going to just give us the run around because we can't prove any of this, so I am trying to think two steps ahead...0 -
Hi All - any other thoughts please?
The dealer who charged us the extra is now giving us the run around and not replying to phone calls.
I will be going in but I suspect I will get nowhere. Therefore, I think my only action is to write them a letter and ask for a refund within a set period... so when they fail, I can take them to small claims court.
All input greatly appreciated.
Many thanks0 -
What "Important work" does it need? Can you get a second opinion from a friendly independent garage? At least you know what is wrong, and then will know if its covered by the warranty or not (probably not as they are not worth the paper they are written on!)0
