Old (pre 2003) PPI claim advice please

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum so please be gentle with me!
I've just successfully claimed back some PPI from Welcome Finance  In the letter I received confirming my compensation there was mention of some older policies I had with them prior to 2003 which they aren't obliged to look into. The letter states that the sale of these policies was the responsibility of the insurance provider and not the broker who sold it.
The question is how do I go about claiming against these older policies? I have very little info other than the policy numbers. I can't remember any dates or timescale relating to these policies and, in all honesty, even who the insurance provider was at the time.
Any help would be much appreciated!
