Hi

someone was telling me that they had to pay no money to get out from the RAF, just handed in their notice, been in about 5 years

Have been released 6 ish weeks from start to finish

I think it is more likely they have been discharged after a stint of 20 days in the glass house

Am I wrong or is it likely they have been allowed to give notice and leave?

I handed in my PVR in 2007, I was told I had to wait 12 months to get out, I then returned a week later with a letter of offer of employment with an expiary to start. I then filled out a Gen App to have my exit date moved forward and was out within a month.

I didn't have to pay anything to leave early.

PVR waiting times are published by RAF Manning. Certain trades can be reduced down to 6 months, or even extended up to 12-18-24months. It really depends on manning levels for that Rank/Trade.

However, if a person was failing the service test. Then I could see no need to hold them back if they wanted to leave the RAF if they were an admin burden.

The RAF will also never stand in the way of a good job offer either. If they did, they open themselves up to being sued.

    100% this.

So op, I'd say you're wrong.
  • One of the lads in my section managed to get out with a "job offer" from Holiday Inn on an A4 piece of paper with no letterhead, no phone number, and no name of the person confirming the "job offer", just a squiggled signature, with "manager" underneath.

Mind you, he was one of the biggest oxygen thieves I have ever had the misfortune to meet!
