Well to Australia you will need 11,900 Airmiles and pay £117.10 airport tax per head. That is an awfull lot of Airmiles to collect or buy. Airmiles is a currency and I can't see any reasons why you could not buy them from somebody else.
They will either be sold as coupons or are already part of the seller's account; In which case the seller will have to book your flights directly with the Airmile company (in which case, who will pay the airport taxes???)

Beware though of people selling their air miles collected via frequent flyer schemes. These air miles can only be used for the member and his/her direct family. Selling these air miles is an offence.

I am a member of a well known Frequent Flyer program and know that airlines are keeping an eye on these deals, especially on Ebay. Some time back, a member of the public having purchase loyalty program miles from an unscrupulous traveller via Ebay saw his ticket confiscated at time of boarding the aircraft. The traveller was kicked out of his loyalty program and lost all the miles he had on credit.

So remember Airmiles are ok but loyalty program air miles are not.
  • Hi Warren Many Thanks For Your Reply Was Really Good To Hear That It Is Possible And Not Just One Of My Brainwaves! However How Will I Know If Buying Off Ebay If They Are Loyalty Program Air Miles? Will It Be Stated? Also Is There Any Way That I Can Get My Own Air Miles? How Do You Get Into Getting Them As This Is Also A Possibility As I Could Get Some Of My Own Towards My Dream Trip

    Always happy to help. ;)

I have been on the Ebay site and all the Airmiles for sale are real Airmiles (not air miles).
The Flying Boat logo is the Airmile trade mark. If they are shown on the Ebay site, they are good.

A seller selling his own loyalty air miles will ask you where you want to go and when etc...

You can join Airmiles immediately at https://www.airmiles.co.uk and start collecting airmiles by buying your petrol from Shell, shopping at Tesco, banking with Natwest and getting wired up at Southern Electric. Some National newspapers will also advertise Airmiles for coupons from time to time.

If you are collecting as a family, call airmiles and ask them to register you as a "Household account". All members of the family will then be able to club into the same pot.

That's about it. I have used Airmiles many times in the past and my daughters and I are off to a wedding in France this July with Air France.....on Airmiles. Cost per person £49....Easyjet flight.....£106! :j
  • mr warren you have been a huge help and i was wondering for future reference if you could show me a picture of the flying boat logo? so that i know that any airmiles i buy are genuine, once again many thanks lulu

LULU, do all your shopping & petrol purchases at Tesco & convert your clubcard points to airmiles £2.50 in clubcard vouchers = 60 airmiles.
Also Homebase but you need to spend a lot there

    I've been Money Tipped!
I wondered the same thing as I want to go to NZ in Nov. I sent air miles this

" My mum wants to exchange her clubcard vouchers to air miles to help us out with our holiday. Can her airmiles be added to my account?

I've also seen airmiles for sale on ebay...can these be added to my account?

    thanks"

And got this email in response...

    "Thank you for your email.

AirMiles can not be transferred from one account to another. However, it is possible to use AirMiles from numerous accounts to pay for the same booking.

It is not advisable to buy paper vouchers on-line as the vouchers may have expired.

If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In my experience the problem with Airmiles is finding a flight that you can use them for.

I've accumulated about 3000 previously from flights, more recently from Tesco and the AirMiles credit card from Natwest.

The last 3 times I've tried to book there have been no seats available as they 'only allocate a limited number of seats to airmiles'.

I was however trying to book just a few weeks in advance - maybe better if you can book a good few months ahead.

hullo, I am rather confused on that https://www.airmiles.co.uk can I used my Delta Airmiles? I have about 36 000 delta airmiles and want to travel to the US in July/August time. OR is it just the TESCO, Suthern Elecetric etc Airmiles that I could use (of which I have ZERO!)
    Finding these Airmiles confusing.

Am I right in thinking that you can only book/redeem airmiles on the airmiles web site?

I looked into collecting them, as I too wish to fly to NZ, but theflights on the airmiles web site seemed much more expensive than on travelbag for example. one flight was approx £700 on travelbag, but £875 on the airmiles web site, it was same airline flight times etc. So in the end did not seem like a cheap way of doing it.
