Mobile phone: Replace or repair?

Options
I have a HTC desire S that's done me a good 2.5 years. Trouble is I'm having intermittent issues with the right hand side of the touch screen (right where some handy letters including 'p' and 'm' are, along with the delete key).

I've read it might be the digitiser that's faulty and that for ~£10 I can mess it up myself and I'd assume triple that if I let a shop do it.

I'd like a new phone, but would rather save up and avoid a lengthy contract if I can. So, replace or repair? I definitely need a functional phone either way!

Buy the digitizer and give it a go, its less than £10, if if works, great, you can then keep it or sell it as working and use the money to pay for new phone. Look at the Motorola Moto G from Tesco, £99(8Gb) or £129(16Gb), can be unlocked to use on any network for £3. Look at Ovivo Freedom 0, £20 for the sim then no more charges.
