Blockbuster "debt" being chased by Oriel

Posting in a more appropriate forum would maybe be a good start - I'm at a complete loss to understand what this has to do with UK Holidays?
Debt, Consumer Rights, or Praise Vent and Warnings all seem far more suitable?
Might have been the entertainment the OP thought made it appropriate to post here but yes there is a more appropriate board tohave posted it like Praise, vent and warnings.0 -
I've had two emails from them now claiming I owe £15 but I don't. I've never returned anything late and had only been a member for a couple of months when Blockbuster folded. I'd never been made aware that I owed them anything.
My emails refer to an itemised list of what I owe them for, so I've copied it in exactly as it appears....
Where titles are available, they are quoted below. There may be more titles outstanding than are quoted below. Please contact us by post if this appears to be the case. Where a title appears twice, this item may have been returned but there are further titles outstanding and potentially Extended Viewing Fees also owed on the account.

....yup. I was confused too.
I contacted them in January when the first email arrived and questioned what it was for, but they couldn't tell me and said they had no details of what I'm supposed to owe them for. They said they'd feed this back to the administrator and this was the last I heard of it until today when a 'Final Demand' arrived threatening me with recovery, legal costs & a black mark on my credit report!
I don't believe unless then can prove what they think I owe them for they've got a leg to stand on have they??0 -
I've received the exact same email as BillyBunk. Apparently I owe the princely sum of £2. I don't believe I owe this, though I might, but can they really log a default notice against your credit account!? The only correspondence I have received is two emails.0

i received a letter in dec saying i owe them £22.50
then today we had an automated phone call saying 'press 1 if you are mrsB A**** ' so my husband pressed 1 and then the phone cut off.
we've not had any texts or emails as we have changed providers.
we dont owe then any money, the only thing i can think that it is , is that one disc went missing between my husband putting it through the letterbox and them scanning it in as a return, after i told them in the shop that it was returned, i was still able to rent out disks. so i thought they had resolved or found the disc.0 -
I have two emails over the last few months saying I owe them money, but I never had a blockbuster account so I presume this is a scam??0

I've received an email today saying I owe £1, yes £1 and if I don't pay I am liable for court proceedings and associated costs and my credit file will be affected.
I had an account, but always paid it up and actually remember on my last visit before they closed I made sure it was all settled.
What should I do, worried my credit file will be made a pile of cack from this £1!
I've received no letters or calls and this is my first notice, yet the email states this is a final reminder, their are either stupid and badly organised or this is an error?Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

I have just issued the following to them;
FAO Oriel Collections:-
To whom it may concern,
Please be advised that your directors (listed below) will be receiving invoices for my time (£25.00 per hour) and associated expenses to their home addresses.
• Claire xxx,
• Brian xxx,
• Chris xxx,
• Vince xxx,
• Gary xxx
• Patricia xxx
If you check the mail you have sent me (stating final notice) this is the first time you have mailed me (email or letter) it does not list any amount that is outstanding or the reason why.
Until you can provide me with details of the outstanding amount then I will continue to charge you for each email or letter that I reply to and send in return.
I will also be replying in writing to the home addresses of all of the directors of the following companies (whether still trading or not)
• Oriel xxx
• Oriel xxx
• Oriel xxx
• xxx
• xxx
Perhaps then you will be able to issue me with proof of what is outstanding
I'm currently awaiting a reply from them - will wait and see
Perhaps if we all send the same email to them then they will be able to provide proof of what is owed instead of using bully and scare tactics.0 -
Received my 'final' (and only) email from this lot this morning.
I reported them to the BBC's Watchdog programme using the contact form. Google 'BBC Watchdog' then click on the 'Your story' graphic for the contact form.
Then replied to Oriel informing them of my action.0 -

I too had had this email, over a suposed £2 debt! I found it quite threatening, considering no evidence is provided.
As Glevum, I have also emailed Watchdog about it, maybe it will get a mention.
So what's the consensus guys? Should be ignore it?0
