Martin L pushing up bills by plugging solar !
Why are you guys plugging solar PV panels now ?
- It's subsidy is just a tax put on poor peoples bills that is given to the rich & questionable solar biz.
- The more people get panels the more subsidy will be paid out, the more other peoples bills will have to go up to cover it.
- So I can no longer support Martin and MSE now they are encouraging more unproductive & needless expense in the electricity supply chain.

Solar panels are Ecobling for the middle classes, nothing to do with staving off climate change.
Time FIT payments were all stopped, early adopters are getting over 40p per KwhThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I forgot to say that when subsidies push energy bills up, it filters through into a cost for all businesses, so pushing up the price of everything you buy.
So that is not expert money saving., is it ?0 -
What a narrow minded view of the world....
FITs adds about the price of a packet of fags onto every bill. Whopee!
WHD and all the rest cost us all £100 on the average bill.
Who is subsidising who here...?0 -
The first users may be on even more now as they can rise with inflation. One lady said she was on 48p a kwhr F.I.T. Ive even seen some who have over 20 panels up, sneaking a few extra in. Thats OK if they are declared and not over the max kw limit. Its just yet another extra for the average bill payer to subsidise, we even pay an average of 60p a week extra to cover all the energy theft that suppliers do little to stopSolar panels are Ecobling for the middle classes, nothing to do with staving off climate change.

- 2. as I said it certainly is not "just the price of a packet of fags", it effects every business in the chain than you buy something from , so if that is a steel company, government office, church, charity then their bills have gone up by a percentage and they have to pass that cost onto you.0 -

There are lots things that affect the cost of things like oil... affects the price of everything. Right down to the income tax we all pay does not cover the benefits bill...
Why whine about the tiny cost of solar...?0 -
To be fair FIT's was a good way to kick start this industry which employs thousands (inc me to some extent), and the rates have been falling with the reduction announced today the domestic FIT stands at 14p.
Is it just for the middle income? Far from it, solar co's are very inventive and quite a few customers in not so wealthy areas have their solar supplied with no up front cost but they own the system by means of a finance agreement where for the 1st 10yrs the FIT pays off the finance leaving 10yrs to reward the owner and coming your way very soon is RHI where customers are rewarded with a type of FIT for GSAP biomass etc.
If we want as a nation to act green incentives have to given but thankfully the current gov do manage the FIT well.0 -
I have solar panels. I certainly do not fall into the rich category. I did not pay to have them installed. The housing association I rent off did. As a tenant I find them good as my electricity bill has reduced substantially since I had them installed. I do not know how much the housing association earns from the meters. I live in quite a poor area of the country. Other tenants also have solar panels round here, they would fall into the poorest 10% of the country- the solar panels save them money too. We also have had extra insulation which cuts our bills, but that is a whole different issue.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

If you want some grown up reading of the Solar subsidy(FIT) scheme read this article in The Guardian by George Monbiot a leading environmental campaigner:

wow, firstly this article is from 2010 when the FIT was 42p (now 14.5p), so the figures in the cost of saving carbon £800 should now read (£266), he suggests spending the money on double glazing instead of solar which would take around 26yrs to recover the cost.
Then he makes suggestions of geothermal. Nice idea if you liver in Hawaii or Iceland but back in blighty its not going to get off the ground.
Then we have the issue of NIMBYS where do you put fracking stations, nuclear, wind turbines in fact anything that produces energy is hated inc tidal barrages which bird watchers claim will kill thousands of sea birds and ruin the eco live of the mud flats.
Solar is by no means perfect but given the limited choices and the reduction in the FIT's it looks pretty viable to me.0
