Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. 5 years ago I was made redundant within the it industry and spent 9 months unemployed. My wife had an accident and was left disabled and unable to work for sometime.
I then got a job in IT at a major financial institution. However 2 loans that I had before being made redundant were defaulted 2 months after I started my new job as I hadnt been able to make the full monthly payments without a job.
In the past 4 years I have paid them every month but the defaults are still sitting there. I have been approached by another large financial company regarding a more senior role but an concerned these defaults will make me fall the credit check and tarnish my reputation.
I dont want to miss out on a fantastic opportunity that would let me repay all my debt sooner (and never get into that situation again) but dont want to go through interviews etc just to be turned down.
Not sure if it makes any difference but the jobs with RBS?
Thanks

RBS certainly do check and can be fairly strict. I had a whole host of problems getting someone onboard because they'd been backpacking around india for 9 months a few years ago but RBS will not accept anyone without full background checks and needless to say the lass didnt still have receipts etc from the hostels etc.
Ultimately you either dont apply and "never know" and just stay where you are until they've dropped off your records or you are up front and honest with them about it and then they can decide. Certainly what you dont want to do is not mention it at all and then just let them find out when they do the CRA checks0 -
I have a 5 year old (tiny) default from living in shared accommodation at university. It has stopped me getting work in banks including Co-Op and Yorkshire Building Society. In both instances they ran the credit check before inviting me to interview, so I was declined soon after application.
If you don't try, you don't know. They have approached you so are obviously interested, but be upfront and honest so it's not a nasty surprise for them.
Best of luck, I hope you get the jobIf you don't like where you are - move. You are not a tree.0
