Connect iPad to TV?

I know I can buy a lead from Apple for £40 or an Apple TV box for a bit more but is there a cheaper way of connecting my iPad4 with LIGHTNING CONNECTOR to my TV hdmi input?

You can get third party leads for sub £10, I have had a few of them, but quality varied enormously with some not working at all.

Or you could pick up a Smart blu ray player that has a supported app for under £80, which is what I use, simply swipe to send the content to the TV.

Also bear in mind, especially with 3rd party leads, not all Apps will support video output from the iPad.

So where can i get one of these? I have looked but on Ebay for example they cost more than the one from Apple?
How can I tell if the blu ray player has this app? Toshiba BDX2400KB looks cheap?

I am not interested in the blu ray option as I would like to stream from my iPad live UK TV to a TV in a hotel room when abroad. Most now have flat panels with HDMI connections, although getting it to connect may be more difficult with the basic remotes that they have!!!

So what is the quickest and cheapest method of connecting an iPad to stream live UK TV to a hotel room TV?

All suggestions welcome (well sensible ones that is!!).

Yes, that is my question really.
I wonder if an hdmi dongle would work?
