need advice on concrete built house

UPDATE-sorry its been a while, we have decided to go for the concrete built house.
We now have got a mortgage offer from Halifax, and also we had a homebuyer's survey done. According to the report, the property was built around 1940's and its an ex-local council house and believed to be built of Laing Easiform concrete.
We are now trying to renegotiate with the vendor as the surveyor have suggested on the report that some general works/repairs should be done before exchange of contracts. I am a bit lost though, the surveyor valued the house at £140k in its present condition and it was the same price we had agreed with the vendor before renegotiation.
I am not sure if I've done the right thing renegotiating. Anyway I gave 2 options to the vendor, 1. if they fix the major problems then we'll proceed with the original agreed price. or 2. get a quoted price or estimate for repairs and deduct it to the original agreed price. The EA have asked me for a copy of my homebuyer's survey report and I have provided it to them, and they told me they'll discuss my new offer with the vendor.
any advice please? it will be greatly appreciated

This is very useful info! Thanks for all the postings.
We have just fallen in love with a Laing-Easiform property. It is in dis-repair internally but doesn't seem to show any visible signs of distress outside. Obviously, we will be viewing it once again and if we do decide to go ahead, employ the services of a reputable surveyor preferably one that specialises in these non-standard construction properties.
btw - drdpj posted a very interesting issue regarding the chimney! My husband noticed that there was some deterioration on the chimney stack - unfortunately as the house is a semi, the stack is common.
So my question is - if we were to end up re-rendering, would we also need to repair the neighbours one as well?
