Done something silly and didnt want to own up?

Eh? They have owned up to hitting a stationary object haven't they?
Not sure if silly if the right word, but it's certainly something the driver is at fault for.

I think we'd all take a silghtly different view if it had been someone lying the road after an accident rather than an inaminate object.

Yes they owned up to hitting a stationary object that fell from a pickup and is untraceable.

But is that the whole story? Practicing handbrake turns and hit something? Racing and hit something that didnt stop?

I was 17 once and i know what i got upto with my 1st cars. I never admitted to my dad that i backed the van into his garage doors and had to prise them open with a crowbar. Luckily no actual lasting damage to van or doors.
He didnt notice and i didnt want to tell lies. So i said nothing..

According to the "story" the driver gave chase and stopped the (now untraceable) culprit.

Then apparently had a conversation though didn't get (and give his own) driver's details??
