Car service question

Evening all
As my car is at an age where I am pretty much expecting some suggested extra work during its service next week, I have a quick question.
What is the general procedure regarding work above and beyond "normal service tasks".
Say they do the oil change/air filter etc etc and notice that the axle bushes need replacing, or springs or whatever.....
Is normal procedure to call you before changing them to confirm you want them done? Or would you perhaps expect small jobs to be done and anything more expensive to be checked with you first?
Thanks for reading.

I would expect anything over and above a standard service to be advised.
I have been using the same garage for over 20 years and they have always got in touch.0 -
I always tell my garage that I must be called about any work over and above the manufacturers standard service (as per the book). I ensure they right the instruction on the job sheet
I had one Fiat dealer that continually added and tried to charge for some engine/fuel conditioning fluid they put in. Of course they had to give it me for free as I had not given my permission0
