How to fit a screw under the edge of oven door - Help appreciated.

I have an oven, that I was gifted 3 years ago, that is around 10-15 years old (at least!). The oven works fine, apart from one of the screws has fallen out of one of the hinges.

Basically, one screw has dropped out of the hinge at the bottom causing the door not to close properly. This means that the door doesn't sit properly and therefore heat escapes heating up the buttons and basically wasting energy/money..

I have taken the entire oven door apart, one part of the door cannot be removed from the hinges and I cannot remove the hinge from the door either, due to the design. We have screwdrivers, both large and small, but as the hole that the screw needs to go in is located just in the edge where the oven door meets the oven I cannot find a way (I've tried everything I can think of) to get the screw back in.

Here is a photograph (sorry about the dirt - its an old oven in need of a good clean and now covered in the crap that separates the two pieces of glass).

Any help appreciated greatly. Does anyone have a tool that might help us do this? We've tried lifting and pulling the door as much as possible and neither of us can do it.

It's difficult to see much from your photo, if it were me i'd look on Youtube and search for 'fix hinge on oven door' you should find a few videos that may give you an idea where to start.

The gap between the hole where the screw is missing and the oven door is about 1-2 inches, I can't make the gap bigger, I can't remove the door and I just wondered if someone had a suggestion of a tool or something that would help us fit a screw in that tight gap.

I have tried YouTube a few times today but I will give it another go.

I'm not entirely sure of your access difficulty from the photo but it might be a similar problem to that which I had on different job.
I bought a pack of screwdrivers from a poundshop and bent the end of one in my vice to an angle which allowed it to engage with the screwhead and then tighten it with small movements.
    Forgotten but not gone.

  • You are going to hate me, but I would be shocked if that door doesn't come straight off easily. The bright metal bit that is attached to the oven has a pivot, lever that bit up on both sides, you'll then be able to remove door, by taking it to about half way towards closing, whilst pulling it lightly away from the oven.
I take mine off every 3-6 months to clean it properly, and every oven in the family works in a similar way.

Check you tube but note that it seems US/Canadian ovens are different!

Thank you, I've tried this already, even tried removing all the screws from the door and trying to take it off the long winded way. Can't seem to find a way to do it.

Thanks for everyone who has commented, I've tried YouTube, I've watched 28 different videos in the hope of finding how to do it. My husband is out now looking for angled/flexible screwdrivers that might fit, failing that we will try to bend a cheaper screwdriver. Thanks for the advice.
