NATWEST AD GOLD claim (help please)

Hi all,
I am looking for a bit of advice and guidance.
In 2005 I went into a local NW branch to open a current account. I was given the only option of a NW advantage gold account and no other. Obviously they told me the benefits of insurances etc and said they could lower my house insurance and so on. I had no choice to take the account out what with silly spending when i was younger and having a bit of a pants CS. This was the only option according to the salesman. So for the next 7 years this bank was used for my salary, bills etc. The charge was £12.95 pcm which I think went up to £13.95.
I tried to make a claim on one of the insurances for a mobile that was water damaged but they told me I couldn't as I hadn't registered the handset therefore I claimed on my seperate house insurance (different provider)
In 2012 I stopped having my salary paid into this account, I forgot abt the charge and it went out taking me over drawn by £11.50 and resulted in £950 of bank charges. I sorted this matter out and now these bank charges stand at £420.
After watching Watchdog before Xmas and the episode about mis sold packaged bank accounts I thought that's what happened to me.
I have since filled out the initial claim form (off this site) and sent it to NatWest. I thought rather than using a company I would have a go myself. Today I have received a letter back from Natwest saying:-
"Having considered all the information, I am sorry I am unable to agree with your complaint about the above account being mi-sold to you in 2005"
"My investigation shows that your complaint issue you have raised is for an occurance that happened over six (6) years ago. In line with the limitations act 1980. The bank is obliged to keep records for upto 6 years and your complaint is more than the time allowed for us to consider your issue; we will not be progressing with your complaint.
As a result of the above the bank will not be investigating or addressing the issue of the above account being mis-sold to you and any impact this has had on you.
I do hope this is the end of this matter and I have resolved it satisfactory. If you are un happy with this decision feel free to contact the financial ombudsman within six months of the date of this letter, although I hope this will not be necessary"

Is this now dead and buried or is this the normal initial letter they send which I guess alot of people would just think oh well that's that.
If I knew mis-selling was going before I would have done it sooner.
My Mrs claimed against HSBC in 2013 for a loans taken out in 1999 and 2001 and got every penny of £4569 so this was over 6 years ago.
Also the account in question was open until 2012.
I hope someone can advise me on this and it would be very much appreciated.

thanks all
