Hi there everyone. I'm not sure if this is covered elsewhere but I have limited Internet at the moment and can't trawl through the forum. To cut a long story short I have escaped a domestic violence situation and am currently being housed in a hotel by my old council. I have a house coming available in the next week (private rental). My issue is that I had to escape my house with only the clothes I stood up in and one small bag. I do work and I managed to transfer my job to a different area. I take home approx £1100. Does anybody know if there are any benefits/grants or government / charity loans that would be able to help me start my new life. I need essentials .. Bed, white goods, furniture etc. I'm going to get 2nd hand goods etc - eBay ect but I need to afford this somehow. With my rent & debts I need help from somewhere as I have no spare cash to buy essentials & I refuse to take any more high interest credit. Can anyone advise?

If its not too uncomfortable to do so, ask around at work. Freecycle and Gumtree. Maybe your new landlord may have something in storage they no longer want or need.0

Post on the Debt Free wanabee board and the posters there will help you come up with a strategy to manage your debts, either getting them written off or paid back at a manageable sum. Your disposable income should not be going on servicing debts at the expense of basic living expenses.
Check if there are any local charities that help the homeless with furniture/kitchenware - some areas have charities that provide the homeless with essentials.
Check if you have any benefit entitlements, such as housing benefit, by entering your details in the Turn2us online benefit calculator.
You could ask Womens Aid (if you are female) about your options as they may have some knowledge in this area.0 -
Have you considered asking the Police to escort you back to the property so you can get the rest of your things that you had to leave.
They will usually help in these circumstances.
Well done for finding the strength to leave
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

If you approach your local CAB or advice centre they will have a list of charitable organisations that you can apply to either directly or via one of their workers.
Approach local women's centres - a list of which should be available from your local authority.0
