eBay business in rented accommodation

Hi,

Just wondering if it is an option to set up an eBay business account if you live in rented accommodation rather than have a mortgage.

Thanks.

    Why wouldn't it be?
Who would ask or prevent it?
Many of the biggest companies in the country have businesses in rented premises.

You would probably need to clear it with the landlord.
Sounds silly but try mentioning that you are selling on eBay when renewing house insurance - and car insurance for that matter! They just don't like it at all.
Might be a clause in your tenancy agreement which prevents you using the premises for business purposes - worth checking.

My home insurance allows me to run an office from home but not have any personal visitors. I own the property though.
I would check your tenancy agreement. If there is a clause about running a business from the property and there most likely is, it would depend how friendly you are with your landlord.
Personally though as long as you are not having endless buyers come to the door or planning on selling fireworks and storing them at the property I don't see why you would need to tell anyone. Just remember if you were caught out then you could get evicted.
