Help, Indesit Hob literally Exploded

So i Turned my 3 year old Indesit Hob on yesterday to boil some water, left the room, what followed felt like it shook my entire house, i quickly returned to the kitchen to find the Hob had exploded, Glass everywhere, Ive spoken to Indesit who want a one off payment of £109.99 or monthly installments of £16.29 for 12 months, Now to me this seems unreasonable, this could have potentially blinded me or worse had i stayed in the room, surely theres something in place somewhere to protect consumers against this sort of thing.

  • Unfortunatly as im a new user i cannot upload an image of the hob just yet,
  • What do they want the payment for?
  • What caused the hob to explode? Without knowing the cause (a manufacturing fault with the hob, caused by damage or improper installation to name a few options) it's hard to make a judgement.

What is the £109.99 charge from indesit for? Repair/replacement of the hob?

How much did it cost new?

Also, melodramatics about what could have happened if you were standing in front of it when it went are unhelpful. You were not standing there and were not injured. Deal with the facts, not what could have been.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

The payment of £109.99 is the labour charge for the engineer to visit the property and assess weather the product has failed as a manufactuer fault or improper use, the engineers diagonsis then determines wheather Indesit will replace/Repair the hob or weather they blame myself and walk away, The melodramatics were not used during the call to Indesit, the cooker new cost £380. i just wanted people to know the potential danger of this situation, until i am allowed to post link on this forum i am unable to post evidence to actually show the extent of this explosion. Also Things are sometimes assesed by the danger that could have been not always on the actual outcome.

You may have been negligent by not being in the room at the time.. If you were then you may have noticed something 'before it happened' and been able to take preventative action..

What sort of hob was this? Just an electric ceramic one or an induction hob?

Just put in the link with spaces instead of dots, and somebody here will make it a clicky for you.
