Dishwasher packed up. Potential call out charges?

Hi all
Our dishwasher packed up over the weekend. Its about 3 years old.
Looking through the paperwork, it appears that I did register it and hotpoint offer a 5 year parts guarantee. They only give this if you register it online (so says the paperwork)
However they state "there is a charge for the engineers time"
That if fair enough I suppose.
However, anyone any idea how much they charge per hour? If its something stupid that £80 - £100 per hour i may not bother and just get a new one but any pointers would be appreciated
Many thanks

I think it is probably quite high, I got caught out like that once with another maufacturer. Now I only call them if its under warranty, otherwise I use a local repair company. Probably best to give them a ring and ask.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I had a Hotpoint washing machine with the 5 year parts guarantee so when it broke I gave them a call-the engineer's callout fee was in the region of £120 and they could come in 3 weeks time!!(This was a few years ago) I called a local repair man, who came within a day and cost to repair including parts was less than £50.0 -
I had a similar experience with a CDA Dishwasher.. after 4 years it "packed up"... I called manufacturer to get the same blurb.... "oh you have to register when you buy the machine for the 5 year warranty......"" blah blah blah. anyway, all these things have series of flashing lights go off in a certain sequence to indicate the fault to the engineer. I found a website where I downloaded the service manual for the item. Narrowed the fault down to the water heating element then called manufacturer back to get a price..... nearly cr.apped myself when they give me the price....... could have bought a new dishwasher for less..... also they tried to sell me the whole entire assembly rather than just the part I needed..... went onto e-spares, got the part for £65 and fixed it myself........ Job done and still going strong !!0

Is the fault code something you can maybe fix yourself? We have Hotpoint washer, dishwasher and condenser dryer and have never called anyone out yet, husband fixed 2 issues with the dryer the parts in total came to £37, the dishwasher has needed a 'tweak' 3 times over 6 years and this is something i have been able to deal with.0

I phoned Hoover a few days ago who have now taken Baumatic over since they went into Administration at the end of last year. Hoover charge a shocking £119 for an engineer call out + cost of parts , compared to the £112+ that Baumatic charged. I would imagine all these appliance brands charge pretty much in the same region.
I'm now investigating finding somebody else to repair my combination oven, it seems that most independent type places charge between £50-£75 for a call out including up to an hours labour + cost of parts. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

It is a bit of a con what they charge, however just be aware that getting an "Independent" to do it could void the warranty (or at least give the manufacturer an excuse not to stand over their product.) Not saying don't do it, not at all, just be aware of it.....0 -
What is the fault? 'Packed up' doesn't really tell us much.
Getting a new one in lieu of a £40 call out seems somewhat non-MSE...
My local white goods engineer charges £40 plus parts for a repair, regardless of time or number of visits required-and it's never taken him more than an hour to fix anything.
Why don't you call the agent and ask the cost?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Unfortunately the non-MSE thing here is buying a Hotpoint appliance. Total load of rubbish. Such a shame that a once well respected British made company now turns out dross products at a not so cheap price because many people do not realise that they are now made by the equally nasty indesit.0 -
Got to ask it again...........

Sorry for not getting back and thanks for all the replies
Its a Hotpoint FDL 570.
Basically, it starts up ok but after about 10 mins the power light and a few others start to flash really quickly.
Strangely, when you switch it off (switch not from the mains) it starts up again after about 5 minutes but not in a 'started a program' wash. More of a gurgling sound?
Probably the worst description ever but maybe that'll help? I've tried looking at error codes on google but no joy (and the website i did find didnt really make it clear!)0
