Financial side of divorce

My daughter is divorcing her husband. She has left the home that they shared, which was purchased in his name only, although they bought it together (she was the main breadwinner). He is refusing to sell it and give her share of the equity to her (probably about £30K). Her lawyer has said that she could force him to sell the house and pay up, but the legal fees could consume all or most of the equity.
Is it possible to do the process yourself, without using a lawyer?
It would be a shame if she is ripped off simply because it's too expensive to pursue.

She could threaten to hold off on the divorce until and unless a financial arrangement is agreed. (Which is what she should be doing in any case, because divorcing without settling the financials would be utter madness). Meanwhile for every year that rolls by her share of the equity could increase even though she may not be contributing towards the mortgage-payments. Or, threaten to charge him rent on her half of the house that he's occupying. Or move back in and make his life a living hell until he comes to his senses and agrees to be sensible. Fight fire with fire0

*Urgent" She needs to go online to the Land Registry and register her interest in the property.
As things stand at present, her OH could borrow against the property.
As B&T said, the financials should be sorted before divorcing.
The site "wikivorce" will help her further.0
