Barclays declined PPI redress but paid it anyway.

I've done a few searches on the forum but couldn't find anything that answers my questions. I plan to try and call Barclays PPI team, but I live on the other side of the world to them.

Last year Barclays wrote to me saying that they had noticed I have taken out loan(s) with PPI and to fill out a questionnaire.

I don't have any paperwork as my loans were about 10 years ago so called Barclays to get some loan numbers. They could only give me details on one loan, but not the others.

I sent the questionnaire back with the details of the loan and said I had lost paperwork to the other loan, and in December I received a letter stating my case had been reviewed and the loans in question didn't qualify for redress.

A week ago, I see a sizeable credit (over
₤5000) in my account with the reference PPI & INT REF. Have they got it wrong? Has anyone else been declined and refund and then received one?

I'm going to try and get hold of them but because of the time difference it's difficult, I don't want to spend money that isn't mine.

You need to ask Barclays to be sure.

It is normal for samples of cases to be rechecked. Especially if a failure has been identified by a complaints handler. They will then sample cases of that checker to see if it was one off or a trend.

This is really one we can only guess at.

It's possible that an error has been made at any stage. It could be that the letter you were sent was the wrong template and that you were always successful, it's possible (as Dunston says above) that they have subsequently found in your favour after a review or it's even possible you have been wrongly credited the redress money.

In this case, only the Bank can tell you for sure.

Here's hoping the news is good when you eventually contact them...

Managed to get through to Barclays and double check. Apparently it's all fine and they send a letter per loan and not per request, so one was turned down, the other successful. The letter was sent to me but as I'm overseas it could take a while to get to me.

I've had the same thing, I have another thread going but as you've had the same thing I'll attached my issue.

I'm not sure what too thing, it all seems too easy!!

I hope somebody can help me please.

Today I had a credit of £4.5k arrive in my Barclays current account, the reference was RTB PPI/Interest payment.

I was not expecting this as I have not asked Barclays for any PPI back (numerous other banks, but not Barclays!).

I called the bank and spoke to an advisor stating my concerns i.e that the money had been paid to me in error and the bank would take it back. She told me that it was definitely mine and looked at the account history. She said I had a Barclays loan in 2002 that had PPI attached to it and it was probably from that. I never wrote to Barclays about that loan as I didn't have the account details as it was so old. I told her that I hadn't had a letter about that money and she said not to worry I would probably get one soon. My parting comment was 'Oh, so I can go ahead and spend it then?' she laughed and said yes.

Obviously I am worried that things that are too good to be true, usually are! I have moved the money into my savings account so I don't spend it accidentally before they ask for it back!

My question is, has anybody had a PPI refund that they have not specifically asked for or complained about? Are Barclays refunding off there own back as good will gestures? Are they finally getting a conscience or is this REALLY too good to be true?

    What do you think????

    Hiya,

We've had exactly the same thing happen this week how did everyone get off.

Mine turned out to be Additional redress for overdraft cover that they refunded me a couple of years ago. Apparently they calculated it incorrectly back then.

I would never have known so this was a real bonus result.
  • Ah might be that then as we did claim that before. Did you receive a letter? My husband said they were unsure where it was from. It's so strange as you just don't know whether to spend it or leave it just in case it's a mistake.

Hi, same happened to me. £4,500 in account last week with same reference. Phoned Barclays and they said it was to do with claim in 2012 but as I'd claimed for mis sold PPI on loans, I presumed it was for that.

I received a letter yesterday explaining that Barclays made mistake when calculating the amount of my redress on PPI on my overdraft not my loans as I thought.

Evidently when they conducted an additional review they found they did not take into account any interest and fees charged on my overdraft due to PPI.

Their records show the start of my PPI policy on my overdraft was in 1999 which was not mentioned in my previous redress.

Now awaiting their decision on Additions Plus account charges and should hear by next week. Fingers crossed :)
  • Well we will await a letter then before going out to book a holiday lol! Fingers crossed.

I had exactly the same - was refunded a sum for overdraft protection insurance in 2013 and received a letter two weeks ago with a cheque for £2,000 with an apology that they has miscalculated my original re-dress!! Am keeping my fingers crossed that they mis-calculated by PPI re-dress too and I get something else back!

All unexpected but very welcome as I was quite happy with the refund in 2013! :T:T:T:T:T
