WARNING - Beko Tumble Dryer fire risk! 2012 versions

Although I'm aware Beko have warned about dryers manufactured in 2011, this warning is for those made in 2012.
We've got a DRCS68 condenser sensor dryer, just over 2 yrs old. The dryer made a loud popping noise (like a cork popping from a bottle of champagne), then the smoke, and the smell of burning. Luckily we have circuit breakers on our fuseboard which immediately cut all the electric off, otherwise, we could have lost our home to fire...!
A couple of times its made a popping noise, so the heat exchanger was thoroughly cleaned out. The filter is cleaned after every use anyway, and the water drained...
The Beko recall only applies to dryers made in 2011, but it's the same problem as highlighted on other forums...popping noise, burning smell, electric cuts out...
So, we phoned Beko. They said "not our problem, go back to the retailer. We only guarantee it for a year..." So, go back to the retailer, which has gone out of business (bestbuy.co.uk) However, it's part of Carphone Warehouse, so phoned them and told them...Response: "Not our problem, go to Beko about it."
They were informed about the Sog Act for goods to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, but still they didn't budge.
Exasperated, went back to Beko. Got hold of Chief Exec's voicemail, left a msg stating failure to act will likely result in legal proceedings for making a dodgy fire prone dryer basically! (well, worth a try, as lowly call centre people don't have the power to do much, and those at the top usually clueless what goes in in their company because they don't know or no-one tells them.)
Some of Beko's call centre staff just couldn't be a***d, bored, quoting in parrot fashion "a year guarantee". BUT a dryer should last longer than just over 2yrs right? It's not as if it's been running 24/7 for 365 over 2 yrs...
Told Carphone Warehouse their so-called after sales service stank to high heaven because you're not allowed to swear at them or anyone else in call centres, or raise your voice, or shout, or anything less they threaten to "terminate the call" yet I bet they swear like troopers in the office!!
So, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Beko not really interested, Carphone Warehouse the same. 2 yr dryer, kitchen stacked with wet/damp washing, can't afford to buy another 200 quid dryer. Beko quoted £80 just for call out to send an engineer. Parts extra...
Anyway, check your dryer. If you've got a BEKO, check it. If it makes a popping noise, or you notice a smell of burning, don't use the dam thing, because unless you've got a circuit breaker, you could lose your home, or at the very least, the stuff you got inside your dryer!

Beko only offer a years guarantee. The SOGA will apply to who you purchased the item from, not the manufacturer. As such, id keep on at Best Buy using this number 0800 380 00 00.Told Carphone Warehouse their so-called after sales service stank to high heaven because you're not allowed to swear at them or anyone else in call centres, or raise your voice, or shout, or anything less they threaten to "terminate the call" yet I bet they swear like troopers in the office!!
Too right they have the right to terminate the call if you shout or swear at them.
Does it matter what they do in the office? They probably drink coffee with their colleagues, dosent mean they have to take you to starbucks with them.0 -

Irrelevant . They are just doing a job, so don't deserve abuse from customers. Whether they swear or not is irrelevant you don't need to do it to get a point across. If you took it to court, they'd take a very dim view of you if you've been abusive. It's reasonable they won't deal with you.
You wouldn't go into a&e and abuse staff because of the way they did their job, if you did you'd find yourself in a cell. Why do call centre staff deserve it as part of the job?
You'll find you get further in life with these situations without hurling abuse.0 -

I also forgot to add, as your machine is 2 years old, the onus is on you to prove that the fault with the machine is an inherent fault.
Get yourself and independent report carried out. If the report states that the machine is faulty due to an inherent fault, you can get the cost of the report back.0 -

Thanks for the phone number, I've tried it and they just said bestbuy.co.uk was no longer trading, so as they call themselves Carphone Warehouse, it's not their problem.
I didn't shout or swear at them, it's just a silly policy that the customer is supposed to be all sweetness and light to them no matter what, yet the staff can say what they want/speak how they want to the customer. Just daft. A massive insurance company I used to work for did the same thing, yet after the staff got off the phone, the air was blue with expletives or sarcasm...
Does anyone know of a decent make for a kitchen appliance anymore? One engineer in the past said "all the makes are the same, they don't last five minutes..."
And that, is how these companies keep in business...make crap stuff that fails/falls apart so poor old Jo Bloggs has to keep paying out time and again...0 -

Perhaps my fault for not explaining properly...I didn't swear/shout abuse at them. I just said that because companies can treat customers how they want, yet the staff can do what they want and usually get away with it. All that stuff about recording phonecalls, it's not for training/monitoring it's to protect them.
Anyway, hope you haven't got a Beko dryer...if you have, check it just in case...or anyone you know who's got one.0 -
If yours isn't one of the affected models that were recalled then it's probably just bad luck. I had a hoover tumble dryer that caught fire a few years ago, it was about six/seven years old and had always worked well but it just caught fire one morning. Luckily OH was in the next room and could smell the smoke. He couldn't extinguish the fire so had to carefully but quickly get it out the back door before the whole house caught fire.0

What exactly are you saying then? That the staff can shout & swear at the customers? I don't think you'll find that's the case!0 -
Given the price of dryers these days, I think I'd just get a new one and avoid Beko.0
