Dog mess

Hello, I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice please.
First of all, I'm not anti-dogs. I love dogs, and have been a dog owner at one time, although not now as I work long hours. Someday, when my hours change, I hope to be able to get another one.
The problem's a small one but its really annoying me. Someone regularly takes their dog for a walk past my mum's house and judging by the constant piles of dog mess outside the gate, this dog's taken a liking to my mum's garden wall! If it was up to me, I'd put a huge sign up on the gate asking them to please clean up after their dog, but having only just lost my dad to cancer before Christmas, my mum wants a quiet life and has asked me not to confront the owner.
I was just wondering if there was something I could spray along the wall, that dog's dont like the smell of. It has to be harmless though, because its not the dog's fault they've got a rubbish owner.
I've heard of something similar for cats, but is there anything that dog's don't like to smell?
Its usually dark by the time I've finished work and go to see my mum. I'm fed up of cleaning dog mess off my shoes.
Thanks in advance. x

You could try contacting your local council, explaining the above. They may put some generic signs around the area and maybe have someone patrol the area a bit if possible0

Ring the dog warden/environmental health at your local council.
When I had this issue, they came out and put up a load of official signs, and the 'enforcement officers' were around a lot more for the next month or so.0 -
Thank you both, that's a brilliant idea. I'll give them a ring in the morning.Nationwide cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2720.17 - Current balance £2714.10Halifax cc - Balance 7/1/14 £2779.86 - Current balance - £2751.43Savings - Balance 7/1/14 £750.00 - Current balance - £4000

My dog hates the smell of anything citrus. We stopped him from chewing our scatter cushions by putting some oil of citronella on them.
He doesn't like anything that smells nice, like berry or vanilla scented candles either.
You could try spraying something citrus or whatever on the garden wall. Worth a try.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
