Hi this is my first post(actually it isn't but I think I may have posted in the wrong place earlier sorry)Anyway I have a ccj which has been satisfied(letter from the court/credit card company to prove it).I know I won't be able to get any credit for the foreseeable but not too bothered about that, however my wife has never ever been in debt but on the last couple of occasions when she has applied for a credit card she has been refused. When applying for a credit card she doesn't mention me other than fact she is married and doesn't apply for a second card for me.We suspect it is because of my ccj which is obviously registered at our home address. My wife has had credit cards in the past and never once fallen behind on a payment in fact nine times out of ten clears the balance every month.I suppose I am rambling here but my point is why should my wife suffer because of my ccj and are credit card companies allowed/supposed to do this?

Hi
A situation occurs when you live with someone either by relation, marriage or just plain living together called 'Financial Association' whereby your finances are 'linked'.
The problem with a CCJ in your name, at your address is that it will effect your wife. If she has any 'joint' accounts with you ie: Joint Bank Account, Mortgage etc. your finances are 'linked' thereby creating a 'Financial Association'.
Any time credit is applied for a search is done with the leading credit reference agencies on you and anyone you are financially linked with ie: your wife. Same goes for her. So when she has applied for credit, your files have been searched as well, pulling up the CCj which in turn has affected her ability to obtain credit also for the next 6 years from the day the CCJ was lodged with the County Court.
If however, your wife has no 'joint' products with you ie: no joint bank account, mortgage etc. she can apply to the credit reference agencies for a 'notice of disassociation' which may help her obtain credit without it being affected by your CCJ.
If I can be of further help, PM me!
Take care x
