DIY/Low cost options for draught proofing?
Hi everyone,
I hope this is on the right board - apologies if not. I'm basically looking for energy saving tips!
I've just moved to a house where the back half is double glazed (wooden windows) but the front isn't. The front are all sash windows too, so my bedroom and front room in particular are very cold.
I'm renting and don't have much money to spare at the moment, but has anyone got any tips (preferrably that they have had experience with so can share effectiveness)? I'm already closing doors to rooms and have draught excluders for the doors, will also be getting heavy/lined curtains soon. I saw an article on Which? that said the film you can buy to "double glaze" is pretty much useless. Any one done some DIY to their own single glazed/sash windows?
Many thanks!

How big are the gaps in your sash windows?
I put some small white brush strip (sticky back) in the gap where the two sashes meet, and between the two faces at the bottom of the sash. This stopped wind whistling through.
Roller blinds from Argos (£8 each) stop the warm air in the room from hitting the cold glass, and floor to ceiling thick curtains add another barrier.
If you get more money at some point, look into secondary glazing. There are some cheap methods which use magnetic tape and 3mm perspex sheet.0
