I have found the most effective thing (if the child is not Bill Gates) is to point to the router and simply point out to my kids that it logs all peoples connections, what sites they visit and what searches they make, everything, and that you will be regularly reviewing the logs. Works well even if not strictly true!

Rather than K9 which needs to be installed on the PC ..

Family Shields can be configured on the router
He'll find a way round it when hes older but a good start for now

    LNK

Or OpenDNS for a more flexible option

Both of the previous 2 suggestions (mind games ! ) are also a very good place to start !!
  • Another method would be to use a program on the PC such as Tight VNC, you can then view everything that the host pc is displaying on screen on another p.c or even a phone /tablet. With a suitable app, you can even control the host p.c from the second device. all via wifi
