Hello everyone,
I have had this problem for a while where I have to repeatedly pull on the plunger of the toilet to get it to flush. It takes up to 6 jerks sometimes. I called in a plumber a while ago for something else and he picked up on the problem in its early stages and told me to buy something for a fiver and change it myself. He mentioned something being slack in the top part of the toilet where the water fills up. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be or how to solve my problem?

It sounds like the diaphragm has either gone or is on it's way out. This is used to create the "suction" in the water cistern to start the flush off. If it is a relatively new toilet, you can by a whole replacement siphon unit (which shouldn't be that expensive). I had an old toilet and was able to take the siphon apart and make a new diaphragm from a sheet of thin rubber.
Take the cistern lid off and have a look, when you flush the toilet. You might be able to see the problem yourselfMy £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
