Son lost 3g on his iphone 4

Hope someone can help.
My son has lost his 3g connectivity on his iphone 4 and can't seem to get it back.
Tried a reboot and it has been suggested that trying a switch to airplane mode and back again may help but hasn't.

Anyone come across this and advise on the fix please.

Which network is he on? Does it says 3G on the top left corner of the phone?

Talkmobile and no 3g symbol

Try going to Settings, then Mobile, then the second option should be "Enable 3G".

If that is switched on, then it could be the signal.

What signal does he get ?
does he get 2G still, or just GSM?

if he doesn't get 2G either, then it could be that the data on the phone has been switched off.

or it could simply be a lack of signal in the area, has it been tried in different locations?
