USB Splitter ??

Options
I am really hoping someone can help me.

I bought my husband a tablet for Christmas and he decided he wanted a keyboard and mouse for it. I managed to get a case with a keyboard built in but his tablet only had a micro USB slot so I had to buy an adapter to enable him to use the keyboard.

The tablet only has one USB slot. I am a bit stupid and thought a wireless mouse would work, but after reading about them they have a bit that needs to go into a USB slot too.

So I am trying to get a splitter, but there are so many and they don't all say that they are micro, the mouse doesn't even say if it is a micro USB or a normal one.

I know the wee cables are only pennies, but I don't want to buy something that is a waste of money.

Can someone please help me...

This is the mouse I am thinking of....

Leaving aside the bizarre UI you'll end up with driving a pure tablet with a mouse, doesn't the keyboard you bought have a USB port on it? It's pretty standard for wired keyboards to have a small USB hub built in, for precisely this use-case (one lead from computer to keyboard, mouse plugged in to keyboard).

Otherwise you need a USB hub (one of these) which will cost you about ten quid.

For future reference, buying a tablet which doesn't support Bluetooth is a mistake, because that's the standard way to connect keyboards (and, I guess, mice: what _does_ the UI look like?) to tablets.

USB mice are USB mice: they all work with everything, at least insofar as they point and click. Things like scroll wheels require more support from the OS, and I suspect won't work in Android anyway (applications need to support scrolling themselves, rather than the service being provided by the OS, and who's going to bother implementing it?)
  • The keyboard was this one..

    so no extra slots anywhere..lol

    Has the tablet got bluetooth?

If a mouse even works with it, it'll be a strange way of doing things when you've got a touchscreen.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

As per above, a Windows compatible USB mouse will work with Windows, Mac, Linux; the vendors may decide to brand the device (and maybe its add-on software) to the latest release of the OS at the point in time they released the product.

I guess using a mouse & keyboard could make sense in certain circumstances with a tablet...
  • No bluetooth..

I know it is strange, and he has a netbook as well... Oh don't even get me started on this..lol

I have bought the mouse and also one of the hubs, so we will see if it works. Fingers crossed....xx
