I don't really have any other suggestions at the moment apart from the same - normal food and phosphorus binder, if that'll help her to eat more. I don't have any dogs so I can't give you any tips on what to hide the fortekor in, although I'm sure somebody will be along with one soon. Perhaps you could crush it and hide the powder in the middle of something, or syringe feed it to her? If fortekor can be crushed, that is. Which is another question for the vet, sorry

benefortin is also another phosphate binder aka fortekor they both do the same this just different drug brands, you could also call burns nutrition number and ask their advice for diet, my friend has a dog with one kidney and feeds him burns mixer with jwb as it reduces the protein in his diet good luckDFBX 2014#154 - £64350

I don't see that anyone else has suggested this as food - my friends dog (the sister of my dog) unfortunately was pts suffering this about 2 months ago aged 18months - she was given Lily's Kitchen at the end which was suitable for her diet and she LOVED it. She had lost quite a lot of weight but really wolfed this down with gusto.. I think it is quite expensive so she was given it as a treat (I think they gave her it at weekends) to try maintain a bit of weight on her without completely breaking the bank..:j Married to the Love of my Life 02.08.2014 - Now I'm Mrs E :j

Hi there,
Have just stumbled across this thread, albeit two months old.
Thank god, I still have a 16yr old black lab that was diagnosed with kidney failure nearly two years ago now, we were told that she wouldn't survive a week and we were heartbroken, she is our baby!
We took her home, I researched, researched, researched and the following is what worked for us.....
She refused to eat for 2 weeks and the Royal Canine renal diet was an absolute NO NO, she hated it! We made the decision to give her what SHE wanted.
She's still a happy old lady albeit a little wobbly and a little fussy with her food at times, when she is, she has lean minced beef and potatoes (a kind of shepherds pie),sweet potatoes, boiled eggs, chicken, fish or rice whichever she fancies. When not being fussy she has winalot senior with the phosporus binder Ipakitine mixed in.
As we had to stop prescribed medical treatment for her joints due to the renal failure she now has Yumove joint support tablets for her wobbly legs and Yumpro bioactive tablets to keep her stools nice and firm. These are both safe for dogs with kidney troubles and its peace of mind for us that she is having some relief.
She has also had the odd bout of pancreatitis which the good old fashioned CHAPPIE food is great for as it contains no fat therefore the pancreas doesnt have to work too hard to break down any fats apparently!
We also have a full blood test/diagnostics on her every 6-8wks to ensure that her levels are ok.
All of these products are available from ANIMED DIRECT or VIOVET, both companies I use on a regular basis, quick delivery, excellent customer service and much cheaper than the vets!
I spent hours upon hours surfing the net looking up this terrible disease, asking advice, looking for anyone that might have been, or was, going through this awful condition with their beloved pet. If my post helps just one person then im happy.
Good luck to you all.........:A0
